We would be remiss if we did not take a moment to acknowledge the passing of an inspiring member of the Jaguar family.
Irene Herrera passed away Friday, October 27, after a long fight with cancer. The Jaguar family has lost a faithful fan, but more importantly, a courageous and inspiring role model. She came to baseball games in the heat of summer when it was certainly not easy for her. She came to football games in the cold, when she had difficulty climbing the bleachers, when she couldn't climb the bleachers, when she couldn't see the field. But still she came. She came because it was important to her to be there. She certainly could have taken the easy way; stayed home; no-one would have thought less of her. Except maybe Irene herself.
Irene demonstrated a courage and commitment off the field that inspires us all. Maybe she couldn't win. Maybe her challenge was too great. But she never stopped fighting. She refused to give up. She always had a smile for the rest of us. She established her priorities and held to them.
We are all richer for having known her.
